From sidewalk (2010)

In spring 2010, I spent a few days in Cairo. My intention was to stroll the streets eight hours a day, like a "chiffonnier", equipped with a rangefinder camera and a normal lens. If only sight and shape can be true, I can live no longer by thinking. I am not taught to make anything. But still, using the traditional reportage approach is one of the most joyful and direct ways to produce photography. Simply being out there on the city’s sidewalk, guided by a hazy Baudelairian idea in my mind to make pictures of modern life – even when far from the ordinary familiarity of home.
