The sidewalk (2010)

In spring 2010, I spent a few days in Cairo. My intention was to stroll the streets eight hours a day like a "chiffonnier", but equipped with a rangefinder camera and a normal lens. If only sight and shape can be true, I can live no longer by thinking. I am not taught to make anything. But still, by using the traditional "reportage" approach – also so-called street photography – is one of the most joyful and direct ways to produce photography. Simply being out there on the city’s sidewalk, guided by a hazy Baudelairian idea in my mind to make pictures of modern life – even when far from the ordinary familiarity of home.
